Hey You,
You read my fucking magazine. I love you. I also love Larry Flynt, pot, Danzig, the X-Files, Secret Window and a really rare steak (wondering if the rumors about me being a vampire are true yet?) so you are in really good company. -Danzig, Danzig, Danzig. My cover boy and my own personal pin-up. It takes a whole hell of a lot for a musician to scratch my psychic itch-I said PSYCHIC , this isn't porn...yet. Forget I was psychic for a minute? The combination of his arrangements and the timbre of his voice raise my psychic vibration and make me so fucking right when I read. Yeah, Evil Elvis is the psychics musician. He is the inspiration behind the Wolverine feel of my logo with the M at the top of every page. His musical integrity and personal connection puts him on my cover. -Musical integrity. Musical culture, specifically in Atlanta is taking a massive hit. Our mayor, Shirley Franklin, is definitely pandering to the strongly religious right that put h er in office. The big shows just are not getting the permits-where the hell is OZZFEST in Atlanta? The BIGGEST market is the Southeast? Do you honestly think that the organizers of OZZFEST left you out? Did it piss you off to have to go to a much smaller city to see the biggest shows of the summer? -The Masquerade, hub of alternative/rock/metal culture, historic place where bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam were first introduced, will be forced to move out of the city due to a new round of sound ordinances hitting Atlanta as well as a rezoning process that will fucking destroy the property value of the place. The OPETH show as at the Roxy. The Roxy is a beautiful venue, but holding shows at the Roxy will force tours to raise tickets prices. It is just that simple. OPETH is just one little example. -The bigger shows are winding up at The Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia. DULUTH is not Atlanta. It is Atlanta extremely light. -Here is the way it is supposed to go. During the summer, the bigger shows cruise out to the HI-FI Buys Ampitheatre and the musicians stay downtown at the Marriott Marquis or the Four Seasons. Instead, they are out in Gwinnett and staying at the Four Seasons or the Red Roof Inn. Evidently, the downtown area is for rap artists...and Atlanta's rappers are not anti rock/metal. Lil' Jon makes an appearance as Jonathan Davis in the new Korn video. Twisted Transistor is the most clever thing I have seen in some fucking time. Korn has been poking BACK at the way it has been treated. Davis would be an interesting interview. -I have been angry. Brian Harvey (House of Freaks, NrG Krysys) and the murder of his ENTIRE family in Virginia. It wasn't a vengeance thing or a mob hit. It was a random act of extreme violence and cruelty. And the fucking kids-what is the world would a little kid have done to deserve that kind of hard death. Harvey never made it big-but he was an underground legend. -Hurricane Katrina. I am not going to Bush bash TOO much ove r an Act of God. The folks that support Bush, including the state of Louisiana that gave Bush ALL of its electorial votes, thought that he would always hire the right person for the right job. When funds were being diverted from the levee repair and build up for the Iraq war, the head of FEMA should have stood up and screamed to the fucking PRESS if nobody would listen. George Bush is not the only member of the United States government. -Our government responded BETTER to Tsunami victims halfway around the world than it responded to its OWN citizens, but it gets better. When the world offered to help, our Secretary of State, Condolezza Rice, the THIRD most powerful person in the United States government, left their help sitting on runways because they did not have a specific gift recipient in mind. I guess the people of Louisiana and Mississippi were not specific enough. We will never know the true casualty count of Katrina. How many people were washed out to sea or eaten by gators ? How many people will die as a result of disease in the next few years? New Orleans will never be the same. -Dimebag Darryl Abbott. People are remembering him in their own ways. I left my cover up with him. Cross Canadian Ragweed dedicated a song to him at Music Midtown. Shinedown dedicated a song to him at the Masquerade. He is being remembered in little ways-but not in the fucking grand manor I think that he deserves. I do like the new Dime Deans (guitars). I saw the first one with Nigel from Orange Sky. Washburn is being extremely careful and choosing people who represent Dime's spirit. I respect the hell out of them for that. -So I have been pissed off. This issue will CONTINUE to grow-so check it for updates. I promise to be even more mouthy, bitchy, and relentless. The more people piss me off, the meaner I get. I have to toss this in though-my cat of the last twenty three years died on January 11
th. Rest in peace Pyewackett Oreo Fara.
See you in the pit,
Barb
